Northrop Grumman: US Postal Service Ergonomic Mail Prep Station, currently in use in every major US Postal Service sorting facility

The Design Challenge: Design an innovative workstation to help USPS workers sort bundled “flats” mail in transition for the automated sort process. Maintain consistency in label orientation, while performing repetitive mail sorting tasks. This newly designed workstation minimized the potential for repetitive stress disorders and injury, and represented the first postal service product that incorporated ergonomic design to increase throughput and accuracy. The product contributed to significant process improvements at the US Postal Service and was a business success for the client.
